Ras Al Khaimah has taken a significant stride in its transportation evolution with the launch of an autonomous mobility framework and a dedicated vehicle testing zone. The RAK Transport Authority (Rakta), in collaboration with RAK Properties, inaugurated this pioneering initiative at a ceremony held at the InterContinental Ras Al Khaimah Mina Al Arab Resort & Spa. The event was graced by the presence of Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

Sheikh Saud highlighted the development of an autonomous mobility system as a crucial milestone in the emirate's pursuit of a more advanced and sustainable future. He emphasized that 'People are at the heart of our vision for the future of Ras Al Khaimah, and the ultimate purpose of every advancement we seek to achieve.' He further stated, 'We are committed to ensuring that advanced technologies make a tangible difference in people's lives, providing greater safety and convenience while opening up better opportunities.'

During the ceremony, Rakta formalized its commitment to collaboration by signing 10 partnership agreements. These agreements were established with various government entities, specialized companies, universities, and academic and research institutions. The primary objective of these partnerships is to foster cooperation in the development and testing of autonomous mobility technologies and to advance scientific research in this field.

Distinguished attendees included Zeng Jixin, China's ambassador to the UAE, and Ou Boqian, China's consul general in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. The newly established Autonomous Vehicle Testing Zone is designed to offer a controlled environment for testing vehicles and rigorously assessing their efficiency and safety. This initiative is poised to enhance the emirate's capacity to attract international specialized companies and bolster the development of smart, sustainable transport solutions.

These advancements build upon ongoing trials, such as the deployment of autonomous Robobus vehicles on Al Marjan Island and the expansion of Robotaxi testing in the Al Dhait South area. These trials, alongside the new self-driving framework, underscore Ras Al Khaimah's strategic ambition to cultivate an advanced transport system, bolster its competitive edge, attract high-caliber investment, and ultimately elevate the quality of life for its residents.
