Canada's Leylah Fernandez has advanced to the final of the WTA Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, defeating Uzbekistan's Kamilla Rakhimova 7-5, 6-3 on Saturday. This victory extends Fernandez's impressive form during the Asian swing of the season. The World No. 23, who secured her first title of the year in Singapore last month, also reached the final of the Ningbo Open in China last week, where she was defeated by World No. 1 Elena Rybakina.

Fernandez is now set to compete for her seventh WTA Tour title against either Russia's Diana Shnaider or Slovakia's Mia Pohankova in Sunday's final. Earlier in the tournament, Fernandez had reached the semifinals when Rybakina withdrew due to a neck injury, a day after Rybakina had secured the year-end world No. 1 ranking.

Rakhimova, currently ranked 66th, entered the main draw as a lucky loser after being eliminated in qualifying but managed to reach the semifinals. She was aiming for her first WTA Tour final but faced a formidable opponent in the in-form Fernandez, who served nine aces during the match. Although Fernandez fell behind an early break in the first set, she quickly responded with a break of her own to regain control and ultimately win the set. Rakhimova also took an early lead in the second set, but Fernandez fought back to secure the match in just under two hours.
