Two Adnoc vessels were targeted in an attack by Iran while navigating the Strait of Hormuz, according to an announcement made by the company early on Friday.

The incident took place on Thursday night, resulting in no reported injuries, and the situation remains under control, the company confirmed. State news agency Wam reported that Adnoc emphasized the critical need to safeguard the safety of seafarers, uphold freedom of navigation, and maintain maritime security.

The UAE Foreign Ministry issued a strong condemnation of the attack, stating it breached UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which protects freedom of navigation and condemns aggression directed at commercial vessels.

"The ministry stressed that targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for economic pressure or blackmail constitutes an act of piracy by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and poses a direct threat to the stability of the region and its people, as well as to global energy security," the ministry declared in an official statement.

"The UAE emphasised the necessity for Iran to cease these aggressive attacks, ensuring its full commitment to halting all hostile acts and reopening the Strait completely and unconditionally, thereby achieving regional security and the stability of the global economy and trade."

As of the time of writing, Iran had not claimed responsibility for the assault. The Strait of Hormuz has remained effectively closed since the onset of the US-Iran conflict in February.

Meanwhile, Bahrain also condemned the attack, branding it a violation of international law. The Bahraini Foreign Ministry expressed Manama's full solidarity with the UAE alongside total support for any measures taken to preserve its security and stability. Previously, Iran was also held responsible for an attack involving an Adnoc tanker the preceding Saturday.
