A civilian-contracted Cessna 441 operated by Anchorage-based air charter company Security Aviation crashed west of Cape Newenham LRRS Airport on Thursday at approximately 20:15 GMT, according to a Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson. The flight went down near a remote radar site in western Alaska.
Rescuers arriving at the scene confirmed that all eight individuals on board perished in the incident, as stated by the Alaskan Command. Clint Johnson, the National Transportation Safety Board’s Alaska region chief, noted that the flight carried two pilots and six passengers.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific activities of those on board the radar site, which monitors aircraft operating within Alaskan airspace. The Alaskan Command is currently investigating the crash and stated that the identities of the victims will be released once their families are notified.
“This is a devastating loss for our military family and the communities we serve,” Alaskan Command chief Robert Davis expressed, highlighting that the victims were dedicated professionals on a vital mission.
