Russian authorities have apprehended a teenager accused of plotting an attack in a well-known Moscow park, acting on intelligence provided by the United States, according to Russia's Interfax news agency, which cited the Federal Security Service (FSB). The FSB reported that the suspect, a Russian national, had posted images on TikTok. These images depicted the individual in a balaclava and tactical gear, holding what appeared to be a firearm. Interfax stated on Sunday that the suspect, whose identity has not been revealed, had also shared photographs from the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve in southern Moscow, accompanied by the caption, "I found a place." The FSB indicated that a search of the suspect's residence yielded the clothing and accessories seen in the photographs. Furthermore, the security service mentioned that the teenager's phone contained search history related to terrorist attacks and mass killings, as well as evidence of a subscription to a neo-Nazi Telegram channel. This detention occurred shortly after the US embassy in Moscow issued a security advisory on Saturday, warning of a "credible threat of a mass casualty event" at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve, a popular destination featuring a palace and park. The embassy advised the public to avoid the area and confirmed that the US government was collaborating with Russian authorities on a response. The park was temporarily closed on Saturday in light of the warning. "We are grateful to the American side for providing the information," the FSB stated. Russia's Investigative Committee is currently evaluating potential legal actions against the suspect, the FSB added. The US has previously alerted Russia to potential threats, including in March 2024, just weeks before an attack on a Moscow concert hall by an ISIL affiliate resulted in over 140 fatalities. The latest warning comes amidst ongoing tensions between Washington and Moscow concerning Russia's military operations in Ukraine.
