Sherif Abdel Rahim, Executive President of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), met on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, with Abdullah Al Jabri and Nasser Al Kaabi, members of the Board of Directors of the International Fund for Houbara Conservation in the UAE. The discussion focused on mechanisms for joint cooperation aimed at developing the al Omayed Nature Reserve, located in the Matrouh governorate.

The meeting explored ways to improve public access to the reserve, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations that safeguard its natural resources. Additionally, the collaboration will support scientific research and specialized studies crucial for preserving the reserve's biodiversity and reinforcing its status as a UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserve under the Man and the Biosphere Program.

This initiative aligns with directives from Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, to bolster development efforts for Egypt's nature reserves. The meeting was attended by Khaled Abbas, Head of the Nature Conservation Sector; Saber Othman, Minister’s Assistant for Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility; and Mohamed Youssef, Head of the Central Administration for Nature Reserves.

Abdel Rahim stated that the discussions covered enhancing the reserve's management system, optimizing visitor reception, elevating environmental awareness, and regulating movement within the reserve. These measures are designed to allow the public to experience the reserve's natural richness and environmental significance while fostering an understanding of biodiversity conservation and promoting compliance with regulations that protect natural habitats and maintain ecological balance.
