This year's midterm election is set to be a landmark event, with gubernatorial candidates across the nation, from the Midwest to the South, competing to become their respective states' first female governors. In Georgia, Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms is not only aiming to be the state's first female governor but also the nation's first Black female governor. "I wake up as a Black woman every day, so it’s no surprise to me that I’m capable and I’m qualified and I’m able," Bottoms stated in an interview with CNN. "But if it’s representation for other people who may not have thought that it was possible, then it’s all worth it." Bottoms is currently in a closely contested race with Republican Rick Jackson, a contest that has garnered significant attention. Minnesota is also on the verge of electing its first woman governor, with Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar holding a strong position against Republican state House Speaker Lisa Demuth. Tennessee is in a similar situation, as Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn leads Democrat Jerri Green. Ohio could potentially join this historic list if Democrat Amy Acton secures a victory over Republican Vivek Ramaswamy. Although Ohio briefly had an interim female governor nearly three decades ago, it has not yet elected a woman to the office.
