Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly convened a meeting on the evening of Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to assess the ongoing progress of the remaining phases of Knowledge City in the New Capital. The review also focused on strategies to maximize the city's potential in fostering the communications and information technology industry, cultivating digital talent, and generating high-value employment opportunities.
The meeting was attended by Raafat Hindi, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and Khaled Abbas, Chairman and Managing Director of the Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD). Minister Hindi highlighted Knowledge City as a flagship project of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, describing it as an integrated information community. This community is equipped with advanced information infrastructure and laboratories, designed to bring together specialized technology training, academic education, research and development in advanced technologies, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Furthermore, Knowledge City serves as a hub for local and international companies operating within the communications and information technology sector. It provides an environment conducive to integration between academic and research institutions and businesses, thereby attracting investment and supporting the growth of the IT industry. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is committed to leveraging Knowledge City's assets in the New Capital by enhancing collaboration among its resident institutions and expanding partnerships with technology companies. These initiatives are aimed at developing digital skills, preparing specialists in various communications and IT fields, equipping the youth for future job markets, and advancing research, development, and innovation in cutting-edge technologies.
The first phase of Knowledge City features the Imhotep Centre for Creativity and Development. This centre hosts a number of local and international companies specializing in electronic circuit design and automotive embedded systems. It also includes specialized laboratories for the Internet of Things, Industry 4.0, and the design and manufacture of integrated electronic circuits, contributing to the development of national capabilities in these critical industries.
Additionally, the first phase encompasses branches of the Information Technology Institute and the National Telecommunications Institute. These institutes offer specialized training programs in various communications and IT fields, utilizing advanced technology laboratories and collaborating with leading international companies. This educational framework aims to prepare digital professionals and enhance their competitiveness in both regional and international labor markets. The phase also includes the National Academy of Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities, which functions as a centre for innovation, research, and entrepreneurship in assistive technologies. The academy is dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities to contribute significantly to social and economic development through tailored capacity-building programs that boost their independence and employment prospects, while also supporting innovators and developers in creating ICT solutions.
Knowledge City is also the location of the Egypt University of Informatics, established by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The university's mission is to prepare digital talent and offers students opportunities for dual degrees through partnerships with prestigious international universities. Recently, the university celebrated the graduation of its second cohort from the faculties of Computing and Information Sciences, Business Technology, and Digital Arts and Design, alongside its first cohort from the Faculty of Engineering.
