Fenerbahce's interim head coach Dirk Kuyt lauded his team's intensity and fighting spirit following their dramatic 3-2 home victory over his former club Liverpool in the Champions League. This win marks Fenerbahce's first in the current Champions League campaign, secured by Vedat Muriqi's 79th-minute winner. Kuyt, who previously played over 200 games for Liverpool, was appointed interim coach last week. "I’m very happy with all the players and all the people who were involved in making a miracle tonight because I think not many people expected us to win [playing] Liverpool," Kuyt stated post-match. Liverpool, who had entered the match with a perfect record of three wins from three, saw their streak end with Muriqi's decisive goal. Liverpool initially took the lead in the 25th minute through Trey Nyoni, whose volley deflected off Kojo Peprah Oppong and deceived Fenerbahce goalkeeper Ederson. Mason Greenwood equalized for Fenerbahce four minutes later with a free kick that took a deflection off Jeremy Jacquet in the defensive wall before beating Alisson. Liverpool regained the lead in the 69th minute when substitutes Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak combined; Gakpo's cross from the byline was headed home by Isak. However, the advantage was short-lived as Archie Brown tapped in from close range after a defensive header from Gakpo diverted the ball away from Alisson, following a short corner. Brown then provided the assist for the winning goal, looping a ball into the box after a long throw was headed back to him. Muriqi managed to head past Alisson amidst three Liverpool defenders to seal the victory. In other Champions League action, Como achieved a remarkable 9-1 demolition of Lens, equaling the competition's largest margin of victory. This feat matches the eight-goal winning margins previously set by Liverpool and Real Madrid. Como also became the first team since 1971 to score nine goals away from home in the European Cup and the second team after Bayern Munich to score nine in a Champions League match. Their third win in four games places them fourth in the standings. "It’s an incredible night," said Como captain Lucas Da Cunha. "We started with a lot of desire, we wanted to take the three points, like we always do, and this evening we were able to do that. It’s a crazy night and a crazy result, but we can’t get ahead of ourselves." Meanwhile, Federico Valverde's stoppage-time goal secured a dramatic 3-2 comeback win for Real Madrid at AEK Athens, maintaining their perfect start to the season. AEK Athens had taken the lead in the 12th minute through Aboubakary Koita, but Jude Bellingham equalized for Real Madrid five minutes after being denied by Thibaut Courtois and having an earlier effort ruled offside. Stavros Pilios restored AEK's lead in the 75th minute, only for Kylian Mbappe to equalize shortly after, before Valverde's late winner. In another match, Manchester City secured a 3-2 victory against Leipzig. Castello Lukeba's own goal gave City the lead, but Ridle Baku equalized. Enzo Fernandez restored City's advantage before Antonio Nusa leveled again. Erling Haaland scored the winner for City. Arsenal also secured a win in Prague, with first-half goals from Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres putting them in control, though Wiktor Nowak scored a late consolation for Slavia.
