The United Arab Emirates has reached a significant milestone, celebrating three years of Operation Gallant Knight 3, its most extensive humanitarian mission to the Gaza Strip. To date, the operation has successfully delivered over 136,000 tonnes of vital aid, valued at an impressive $4.16 billion.
Initiated on November 5, 2023, under the guidance of President Sheikh Mohamed, the operation has evolved from an immediate relief effort into a comprehensive humanitarian system. This system is dedicated to addressing the diverse needs across Gaza, including food, medical supplies, shelter, and psychosocial support.
The UAE's substantial contribution represents approximately 46 per cent of all international humanitarian assistance that has reached the territory. To facilitate this massive undertaking, relief and transport operations have utilized 792 aircraft, 26 ships, and 14,711 lorries, ensuring aid reaches Gaza through land, air, and sea routes.
Furthermore, the 'Birds of Goodness' initiative has conducted 81 airdrop missions, a critical measure to deliver assistance to communities facing challenging ground access.
In the healthcare domain, the operation has facilitated medical treatment for over 294,000 individuals. This has been achieved through the deployment of equipped health centres, field hospitals, and medical convoys stocked with essential medicines and supplies, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation.
Food security has been a major focus, with 40 community kitchens producing approximately eight million meals annually. Additionally, support has been extended to around 27 bakeries, collectively capable of producing up to 1.5 million bread bundles each year.
Operation Gallant Knight 3 also continues to implement seasonal initiatives, such as the Winter Clothing campaign, which aims to provide clothing, blankets, and heating supplies to one million beneficiaries in Gaza.
Aid convoys are meticulously prepared at the UAE's humanitarian logistics centre in Al Arish, Egypt. Here, shipments are received, sorted, and dispatched to Gaza. The operation's coordination through this Egyptian hub underscores Abu Dhabi's unwavering commitment to humanitarian solidarity and its pledge of long-term support for the Palestinian people.
