Somalia is facing a severe hunger crisis once again, leaving approximately six million people at risk of starvation on a scale not witnessed in years. According to the World Food Programme (WFP), a deadly mix of drought, conflict, and displacement is preventing countless Somalis from accessing adequate food.

Decades of instability have continuously hindered aid delivery, and the current emergency has been drastically exacerbated by severe cuts in international funding. The WFP reports that it currently possesses only a fraction of the financial resources required to deliver essential assistance.

To explore the profound consequences of this unfolding crisis, presenter James Bays leads a discussion with a panel of experts: Samira Gaid, founding director of the think tank Balqiis Insights focusing on the Horn of Africa; Mohamed Abdi, country director for Somalia at the Norwegian Refugee Council; and Omar Mahmood, senior analyst for Somalia at the International Crisis Group.
