A new K-drama, 'The Perfect Lie', is set to captivate audiences with its central theme of trust and deception. The series, which releases two episodes weekly on Disney+ until December 5, revolves around a heart surgeon and a school librarian whose promising first date takes a sharp turn. Accusations of assault from her side are met with a defense of consent from his, leaving those around them to grapple with conflicting accounts of the night's events.
As the narrative intensifies, detectives work to uncover the truth, and both protagonists undergo lie-detector tests. Yoo Yeon-seok portrays the surgeon, a trusted single father. To prepare for this role, the South Korean actor immersed himself in footage of actual interviews, stating, "Since the theme of the series is about a lie, I’ve watched some series around profilers, and I also watched some video clips of criminals being on the lie detector and being interviewed." Yoo found the character, Joon-ho, to be enigmatic and challenging, describing the experience as meaningful. "Joon-ho is an enigmatic character and the kind of character that makes you question about how good or evil this person is," he commented. "As an actor, it was a meaningful experience to portray this character."
Seo Hyun-jin takes on the role of a teacher and librarian at the surgeon's son's school. Collaborating with director Jo Young-min, she focused on her character's emotional journey, hinting at a past that will be revealed throughout the series. "I don’t have any experience playing this type of character before, but I’m glad that I met this character at this age because this is the right time to be able to understand this type of character," she shared.
'The Perfect Lie' marks a reunion for Yoo and Seo, who previously starred as young lovers in the acclaimed South Korean medical drama 'Dr Romantic' a decade ago. Their on-screen chemistry was a hit with viewers, many of whom have anticipated their return. Seo acknowledged the fans' expectations, noting, "The chemistry or the dynamics between the two characters would be completely different from what we saw 10 years back." Yoo expressed his hope that their reunion offers something fresh, suggesting, "When you watch the series, you will see a different type of tension, maybe at a different temperature from before." The series also reunites Yoo with director Jo Young-min. Both actors are open to future collaborations, with Yoo stating, "With her, I would be interested in joining for any type of character because I had so much fun." Seo echoed his sentiment, adding, "Likewise."
