Qatar and Greece have announced plans to establish an annual strategic dialogue aimed at bolstering bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors. This initiative follows the inaugural Policy Dialogue held in Doha on Thursday.
A joint statement released by Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Thursday indicated that the proposed annual dialogue will serve as a framework for advancing shared priorities and deepening the partnership between Doha and Athens.
The meeting was co-chaired by Dr. Khalid bin Fahad Al-Khater, Director of the Policy Planning Department at MoFA, and Fahad bin Mohammed Yousef Kafoud, Director of the European Affairs Department. The Greek delegation was headed by Ioannis Foivos Georgakakis, Director of the Department of Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs at Greece’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Both nations highlighted that this initiative builds upon the positive momentum generated during Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani's visit to Athens in April 2026, which significantly strengthened ties.
The strategic dialogue will concentrate on translating shared priorities into tangible cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, defence and security, technology and innovation, public health, culture, sports, and education.
Beyond bilateral cooperation, Qatar and Greece reaffirmed their commitment to fostering regional and international peace and stability through diplomatic engagement and dialogue. They also reiterated their adherence to international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, emphasizing the importance of freedom of navigation and maritime security, especially along critical international shipping routes.
The joint statement underscored the mutual interest of both countries in enhancing their roles as dependable international partners and contributing to regional and global stability. Qatar and Greece anticipate that the annual strategic dialogue will usher in a new era of bilateral relations, providing a dedicated platform for ongoing engagement and cooperation designed to yield mutual benefits.
