Over 600,000 residents in Ukraine’s eastern Dnipropetrovsk region are grappling with electricity outages following an overnight Russian assault on an energy facility, according to Ukrainian energy provider DTEK. The power company stated on Telegram that citizens in the Pavlohrad, Samarivskyi, Kamianske, and Dnipro districts, along with the city of Dnipro, experienced blackouts on Sunday. DTEK engineers are on-site working to repair the damaged facility, but their efforts are being hindered by "repeated attacks," the provider reported. Ukraine is preparing for another challenging winter as Russia intensifies its aerial bombardments, targeting the nation's power grid with drones and missiles. In a separate incident on Sunday, approximately 250,000 Ukrainians in the Kharkiv region of northeastern Ukraine lost power after Russia targeted an infrastructure facility there. Mykola Baksheyev, the mayor of Zlatopil city, confirmed on Telegram that "no casualties have been reported" and that power engineers are working on repairs, though the timeline for restoring electricity remains uncertain. These attacks occurred just a day after Ukraine's Ministry of Energy announced that a significant strike on energy facilities had caused widespread darkness across five regions and severely disrupted electricity transmission in Kyiv. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suggested that Russia is escalating these attacks to exert pressure on Kyiv ahead of trilateral talks brokered by the United States, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Russia's Ministry of Defence, via its Telegram channel, has indicated its forces will "continue to carry out strikes against Ukrainian fuel and energy infrastructure facilities," which they claim are utilized to support the Ukrainian military.
