U.S. right-wing activist Laura Loomer, a vocal critic of Qatar, has allegedly been paid by private clients for political posts on X without disclosing these arrangements, according to a report by The Washington Post. The newspaper cited four individuals with knowledge of the matter, stating that records reviewed appear to show over $60,000 in payments to Loomer and her company, King Breaker Media, since May 2025. However, the report clarifies that these documents do not specify the purpose of the payments or identify the clients involved, and they do not directly link the funds to her posts about Qatar.
Loomer has publicly denied receiving payment for her social media activity. The allegations have gained traction due to the perceived irony, given Loomer's past commentary on Qatar. In November 2025, she questioned on X whether Qatar was funding influencers attending the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix, suggesting the country might have sponsored their trips. At the time, some influencers, including Rob Smith, pushed back, alleging that Loomer's own posts were part of a financially motivated campaign.
Rob Smith, one of the influencers present at the F1 event, responded to The Washington Post's report by accusing Loomer of being paid to target him. He stated on X that Loomer was compensated to orchestrate a social media campaign against him for attending an event in Qatar, which he described as an American ally. Smith further alleged that the undisclosed payer wanted to portray Qatar as an enemy of America.
Hamad Al-Muftah, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Qatar in Washington, commented on X, expressing dismay that individuals are allegedly paid to spread disinformation and that platforms are used for foreign-funded agendas detrimental to Americans. This comes as Qatari officials have consistently refuted claims of disinformation regarding the country's activities in the U.S. Previously, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani addressed allegations of Qatar funding American universities and journalists to influence opinions against Israel in an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored on September 29. He clarified that Doha's funding is directed towards universities operating within Qatar, not for influencing content or students.
