Saudi Arabia and France are slated to finalize agreements and explore alternative transport corridors for the Strait of Hormuz during Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s official visit to Paris. Departing the Kingdom on Friday evening, the Saudi Crown Prince arrived in France to deepen cooperation in transport, health, and security, with a scheduled meeting alongside French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to the French leader's office, discussions will center on diversifying energy and logistics supply chains, encompassing maritime lanes, alternative pipeline initiatives, and regional railway projects. The Elysee Palace emphasized that the visit highlights the robust dialogue between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France, further solidifying their bilateral strategic partnership.
For the first time, Mr Macron and the Saudi Crown Prince are set to co-chair a session of the Franco-Saudi Strategic Partnership Council. The itinerary also includes overseeing the execution of new pacts spanning technology, transport, energy, and health, backed by a delegation of seven visiting Saudi ministers.
Regional conflicts across the Middle East—including situations in Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria where France aids in developing logistics and energy initiatives—will also be on the agenda, officials reported. Prince Mohammed's diplomatic mission arrives amid heightened regional tensions linked to ongoing conflicts involving the US and Iran.
On Monday, Prince Mohammed is scheduled to hold talks with French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu. The Prime Minister's office noted that the high-level talks offer a crucial platform to tackle bilateral and international concerns across economic, security, and diplomatic fronts.
Additionally, the leaders plan to attend the closing events of the Esports World Cup on Sunday, marking the tournament's debut in Paris following its inaugural 2023 hosting in Riyadh under the Vision 2030 initiative. Past engagements underscore the enduring ties between the nations, highlighted by the Crown Prince's 2023 visit supporting Riyadh's successful 2030 Expo bid, Mr Macron's 2024 trip to the Kingdom, and French collaboration in developing the historic AlUla region.
