Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stated on Friday that the massive Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydroelectric Power Station in Tanzania, built by an Egyptian consortium, serves as a significant example of Egypt’s soft power across Africa.

In an exclusive interview with Extra News, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly mentioned that it was a privilege to attend the opening and launch of operations at the dam and power station representing President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly explained that the successful finalization of the project came from close and ongoing oversight by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi throughout its various construction phases.

He pointed out that the administration provided monthly updates to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi highlighting the progress of the initiative, demonstrating the high priority the Egyptian state placed on its completion. He added that the leadership of Egypt and Tanzania maintained steady communication and provided continuous instructions to clear hurdles and ease the execution of the project.

The launch represents a major milestone in bilateral ties between Egypt and Tanzania, with the project having been constructed by an Egyptian consortium consisting of The Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric, under the guidance and monitoring of the Egyptian government. The Julius Nyerere initiative ranks as one of Tanzania’s key strategic ventures in hydroelectric power generation. Situated on the Rufiji River, the project aims to help satisfy the nation's rising electricity demands and boost its energy production capabilities.

Furthermore, the project is anticipated to assist in lowering flood hazards and backing Tanzania’s economic growth strategies. The monumental project demonstrates the widening scope of cooperation between Egypt and Tanzania in infrastructure and energy, especially through large initiatives designed to promote sustainable growth and enhance vital services.

The prime minister noted that the Julius Nyerere Dam project stands as proof of Egyptian capability in managing major international projects, emphasizing it as clear proof of the robust alliance between Egypt’s public sector and private companies. In his exclusive comments to Extra News, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stated that the project also debunks past allegations that Egypt stands against development within Nile Basin nations, stressing that Egypt has consistently backed development initiatives in the Nile Basin that benefit the interests of Egypt and Sudan.

Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly left Cairo International Airport for Dodoma, the capital of Tanzania, leading a senior delegation to represent President Abdel Fattah El Sisi at the inauguration of the Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydroelectric Power Station.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly noted that his attendance on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi at the opening ceremony, which was joined by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, highlights Egypt’s dedication to enhancing intra-African cooperation and forging effective strategic partnerships with nations throughout the continent.
