A terrifying fireball erupted over central Gaza on Sunday following an Israeli bombing of a warehouse in Al Zawaida, which Palestinian officials reported left one child dead. Six other individuals sustained injuries, with some in serious condition, as a result of the strike. Palestinian official media reported a second attack by Israeli forces targeting a shelter near the north-south Salah Al Din Road in central Gaza. Photographs from the scene captured a dense column of smoke rising over the area following the bombardments.
Palestinian medics confirmed that the child succumbed to injuries sustained during the warehouse strike. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the operations, though it generally maintains that its strikes in Gaza target Hamas fighters or perceived threats to Israeli personnel. These incidents mark the latest violations of the 2025 ceasefire that had previously scaled back military operations in the territory.
Amid stalled peace negotiations, the US recently dispatched Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump, to conduct discussions with both Israeli and Hamas leaders. While Israel agreed to establish new working groups addressing disarmament and humanitarian assistance in Gaza, the talks yielded no significant breakthroughs. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed a US-backed proposal for a phased withdrawal from the region.
The recent violence follows a series of strikes last week, including an attack on a seaside cafe in Gaza city that resulted in six deaths, and a subsequent strike that killed nine police personnel. In response to Israel's rejection of renewed peace initiatives, the UAE joined seven other Arab and Islamic nations in issuing strong condemnations.
Concurrently, humanitarian efforts continued as five convoys carrying 800 tonnes of aid from the UAE entered Gaza. Transported via 75 lorries as part of the Emirates' Operation Gallant Knight 3 campaign, the shipment included food, medicine, and shelter materials intended to address essential requirements and bolster the humanitarian response inside the Gaza Strip, according to state news agency Wam.
