The ongoing conflict in Iran has placed significant strain on global natural gas markets, presenting Nigeria with a strategic opportunity to enhance its status as a leading gas supplier. Ekperikpe Ekpo, the country's minister of state for petroleum resources, has outlined ongoing discussions regarding the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline.

According to the minister, Nigeria is actively working to draw investment, boost production, and direct its liquefied natural gas (LNG) toward rising international demand, with a particular focus on Europe. However, this global push unfolds as citizens back home continue to struggle with soaring domestic cooking gas prices.

To address these challenges, Ekpo detailed ongoing initiatives aimed at lowering liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) costs, transitioning millions of households away from firewood, charcoal, and kerosene, and curbing gas flaring. Additionally, the nation is pushing to fast-track 20 gas projects to final investment decisions ahead of 2030.
