House Speaker Mike Johnson has expressed strong confidence that the Republican Party will retain control of the House of Representatives, despite growing public dissatisfaction surrounding the ongoing war on Iran.

Speaking on Fox News on Sunday, Johnson answered affirmatively when asked if Republicans could secure victory in the upcoming midterm elections on November 3 if the conflict remains unresolved. However, he noted that resolving the situation prior to the vote would be beneficial.

The comments come amid rising public frustration over the military campaign, which has contributed to higher oil prices, fueled inflation, and increased the national debt in the US. Johnson, a close ally of President Donald Trump, maintained that Republican success is assured regardless of whether the conflict concludes by November.

"People know we took the head off the snake," Johnson stated regarding Iran, adding that efforts were necessary to prevent the state sponsor of terrorism from acquiring a nuclear weapon. While the Trump administration maintains the necessity of the conflict, public opinion polls indicate that many voters, including numerous Republicans, desire an end to the fighting.

The conflict escalated after US and Israeli forces launched an unprovoked attack on Iran on February 28, resulting in the deaths of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, other top officials, and hundreds of civilians. In response, Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US interests across the Middle East with drones and missiles.

Although an initial ceasefire was announced in April, subsequent fighting has occurred. President Donald Trump has recently introduced severe economic measures against Tehran, while Iran remains defiant over its control of the Strait of Hormuz. The closure of the waterway has significantly increased global energy prices, pushing US petrol prices above $4 per gallon.

Despite these economic pressures, Johnson defended the administration's approach on Fox News, pointing to reports of increased oil flow through a southern corridor of the strait. "We're getting the job done step by step," Johnson said, while reiterating skepticism regarding negotiations with Tehran.
