Drivers have been strongly advised to routinely check their traffic records and settle any outstanding fines promptly after Dubai Police revealed that 497 vehicles were impounded during the first six months of this year due to unpaid penalties.

Brig Juma bin Suwaidan, director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, noted that individual vehicle fines accumulated into tens of thousands of dirhams in certain cases, with some owners failing to renew their vehicle registrations for multiple years.

“Driving an unregistered vehicle poses a serious risk to the safety of both the driver and other road users, especially if the vehicle has not undergone technical inspection to confirm its roadworthiness,” Brig bin Suwaidan stated.

He emphasized that traffic fines serve as a critical deterrent against dangerous behavior and repeat offenses, reinforcing adherence to traffic laws rather than acting solely as a penalty collection method. He confirmed that Dubai Police will persist with enforcement campaigns targeting vehicles with violations and expired registrations, warning motorists of potential legal action and restrictions on vehicle transactions.

Vehicle owners are contacted and encouraged to clear their dues and update registrations before enforcement actions are finalized, Brig bin Suwaidan added, noting that awareness campaigns also aim to foster greater driver responsibility.

To prevent heavy accumulations of debt, vehicle owners in Dubai are urged to update their contact information with the Roads and Transport Authority and monitor their traffic records regularly.

Multiple payment and verification channels are available, such as the Dubai Police smart app, official website, self-service kiosks, and Smart Police Stations. Additionally, motorists can utilize flexible installment options, including the Tabby service, to manage their financial duties and avoid severe legal and financial repercussions.
