Iran issued a warning on Sunday stating that vessels accused of breaching its transit regulations in the Strait of Hormuz could face severe penalties, such as detention or confiscation. This announcement highlights potential dangers for maritime traffic moving through one of the globe's most vital commercial corridors.
In several updates published on X, the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA)—an agency controlled by the Iranian state—cautioned that ships failing to follow what it termed Iranian arrangements for transiting the Strait of Hormuz may encounter “fines, seizure, or confiscation” on upcoming voyages.
The authority advised cargo owners conducting shipping operations to or from the Persian Gulf to consult a designated “Non-Compliant Vessels” roster prior to chartering any ships to steer clear of complications.
“Vessels violating Iranian protocols for the Strait of Hormuz shall face restrictions on future passages, including fines, detention, or confiscation,” the authority stated.
