An Israeli air strike targeting a tent sheltering displaced Palestinians in central Gaza has left at least one person dead and several others wounded.
The attack took place early on Monday near al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, according to reports from the Palestinian news agency Wafa. These casualties further extend the mounting toll as Israel continues its military operations in the enclave.
The Israeli army stated via Telegram that it targeted two individuals on Sunday night in the Deir al-Balah area, identifying one as Muhammad Abdul Nasser Jaber Abu Asad. The military claimed he was a member of the elite forces within Hamas's military wing and alleged his involvement in the October 7 attack on Israel. According to the army, the pair were actively planning operations against Israeli forces and attempting to rebuild Hamas's capabilities, describing these activities as a violation of the ceasefire.
The ongoing strikes persist despite a United States-brokered ceasefire agreement and continuous diplomatic efforts aimed at disarming Hamas and securing the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the territory.
Additional violence on Sunday resulted in the deaths of three Palestinians, including a four-year-old child, following strikes in areas such as Khan Younis and the town of az-Zawayda within the Deir al-Balah region. Furthermore, a man wounded in Khan Younis succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, while another injured in a previous strike near Gaza Port died on Monday.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, the total number of Palestinians killed since the October 2025 ceasefire agreement has reached 1,288. This brings the overall death toll since the conflict began in October 2023 to 73,422, alongside 174,401 reported injuries.
