Israeli forces on Monday advanced beyond their designated "yellow line" buffer zone in southern Lebanon, with tanks and bulldozers entering the town of Haris to demolish a vital road link connecting local homes to the outskirts, according to local residents. This incursion unfolded amid an escalation of Israeli military operations and demolitions across the region, which saw agricultural lands and homes set ablaze in Khiam alongside widespread building destruction in Taybeh, Mays Al Jebel, and Yohmor.
In Haris, situated just outside the Israeli-occupied perimeter, residents reported that armored units crossed the boundary dividing the Israeli buffer zone from Lebanese-controlled territory. Local official Hussein Jawad noted that while an initial crossing had occurred previously to establish an earthen berm, Monday's movement pushed deep into the center of the village. Social media footage captured Israeli armored bulldozers tearing up a paved roadway in Haris, effectively isolating a populated neighborhood and prompting residents to flee out of concern for their safety.
Although Israel maintains it has no intentions of maintaining a permanent military presence in southern Lebanon, troops have only vacated a single small village while continuing to occupy numerous towns. In locations such as Mansouri, recent forced displacement orders and ongoing artillery shelling have effectively extended the zone of Israeli territorial control up to 10 kilometers from the border.
The National News Agency of Lebanon reported extensive destruction within the "yellow line" town of Khiam, where large sections were reduced to rubble following renewed hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah earlier in March. Additional operations included major bombings in Taybeh, the demolition of a former school on the western edge of Mays Al Jebel, and targeted detonations in Yohmor near Beaufort Castle.
Further conflict was reported near the strategic Ali Al Taher ridge line, where dawn air strikes and artillery fire impacted the surrounding hills of Kfar Tebnit. Paramedics in nearby Kfar Roummane recovered the bodies of two individuals killed in a Sunday air strike. The Israeli military is reportedly postured for a potential offensive on the 600-meter-high Ali Al Taher ridge, which overlooks the severely damaged city of Nabatieh and is believed to harbor a heavily fortified Hezbollah tunnel network guarded by fighters and advisers from Iran's IRGC.
