Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian meets Pakistan army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Pakistan army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir in Tehran on August 24, 2026.

Pakistani officials have announced that substantial headway was achieved during high-level discussions in Tehran designed to halt the US-Israel war on Iran. The negotiations occurred on Monday during a daylong diplomatic mission undertaken by Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, alongside Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Pakistani military characterized the visit as an essential component of Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic initiatives to break the deadlock in the ongoing US-Iran conflict. The mission also sought to identify pathways toward lasting peace and a permanent cessation of regional instability.

During his time in Tehran, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held talks with several key Iranian figures, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei, according to the military.

The military further noted that comprehensive discussions centered on strategies to halt further escalation, secure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and bring about a swift conclusion to the hostilities.

Following these engagements, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi utilized the social media platform X to report that both delegations evaluated the measures necessary to revive the "Islamabad MoU," which serves as a Pakistan-mediated interim framework intended to stop the war. Naqvi mentioned that President Masoud Pezeshkian candidly expressed Iran's perspectives and that constructive exchanges took place across all topics.

"Significant progress was made, and the meeting concluded on a highly positive note. We remain hopeful that this momentum will help pave the way for further progress and lasting peace in the region," Naqvi stated.

Meanwhile, Iranian media agency Tasnim reported that President Masoud Pezeshkian informed Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir that the United States is required to alter its stance toward Tehran. Pezeshkian reportedly stated that the United States must adjust its tone and methodology when dealing with Iran, moving away from issuing demands and applying coercion. He cautioned that American intimidation would complicate efforts to implement the MoU, as detailed by Tasnim.

The MoU was initially agreed upon by Washington and Tehran on June 17, but it quickly unraveled following renewed vessel seizures and military strikes in the Gulf, ultimately expiring the previous week.

This diplomatic push arrives at a critical juncture, as the Trump administration recently issued warnings regarding severe economic penalties for any nation aiding Iran. In response, Tehran has threatened to completely shut down Gulf oil exports.
