Kim Yo Jong Claims Ignorance Over Alleged Communication Between Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump

Kim Yo Jong, the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, stated that she is “completely unaware” whether her brother communicated with US President Donald Trump, addressing claims made by Trump this week. While Kim acknowledged her brother's “great relationship” with Trump and his “good memories and feelings” for him, she stopped short of confirming any recent contact in a statement released via state media on Wednesday.

Trump claimed on Monday that Kim Jong Un had responded to his request for conversation, shortly after demanding a sudden reduction in joint military drills with South Korea. Although Trump did not elaborate on the contact and stated Wednesday that he intends to meet Kim later this year, Kim Yo Jong maintained she knew nothing of the matter, noting it might be the only foreign policy detail unknown to her.

The statement highlights the complex dynamics surrounding US-North Korea relations and military exercises. While South Korea’s President Lee Jae Myung welcomed the reduction in drills to foster dialogue, analysts warn that scaling back war games could complicate Seoul's path toward assuming wartime operational control of combined forces.
