President Sheikh Mohamed has sent an official letter to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman, extending an invitation to the upcoming UN Water Conference 2026, scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi this December.

The message was delivered to the Saudi Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Waleed Al Khereiji, by the UAE ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Matar Salem Al Dhaheri, during their official meeting in Riyadh on Monday.

The UN Water Conference is set to be hosted by the UAE in partnership with Senegal from December 8-10. The global event will gather UN member states, civil society, and private sector representatives to drive urgent action on critical challenges such as water access, international co-operation, and financing. These efforts come as rising populations, rapid urbanization, and climate change increase the strain on global freshwater supplies.

The UAE and Senegal will use the conference to urge governments, financial institutions, and the private sector to accelerate responses to the escalating global water crisis.

Highlighting deep-rooted ties between the two nations, officials from both countries previously took to social media in July to emphasize their shared history and fraternal bonds. Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohamed Al Hamed, chairman of the National Media Authority, and Saudi Arabia's Minister of Media, Salman Al Dosary, shared statements on X reflecting on the strong relationship and shared destiny of the two brotherly peoples, supported by the close co-ordination of their wise leadership.
