Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf responded to recent statements from US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who threatened new sanctions against nations maintaining ties with Iran. Ghalibaf asserted that the United States is currently incapable of imposing further restrictions on global economic relations.

“The Americans know that no one believes their bluster. Economically, the United States is not in a position to further restrict its relations with other countries,” Ghalibaf stated during a press conference in Tehran on November 27, 2024.

In a post on X, Ghalibaf added that Iran's trading partners have communicated through public media and direct messages that they disregard these remarks. Concurrently, Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency cited an anonymous senior Iranian intelligence source who claimed the proposed US measures are merely a psychological tactic orchestrated by Donald Trump's media team rather than substantive new restrictions aimed at influencing public opinion.
