Egypt has officially welcomed the decision by the US to remove Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism. According to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, this significant step will help support efforts to achieve stability in Syria, boost opportunities for economic recovery and reconstruction, and create favorable conditions for the nation to resume its vital role regionally and internationally.

Cairo emphasized the ongoing need to support the Syrian people during this crucial transition. This backing will aid Syria in recovering, strengthening its national institutions, and preserving its unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, while also fulfilling the Syrian people's aspirations for security, development, and stability.

Egypt stressed that respecting Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity remains a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable stability throughout the country and the wider region. Furthermore, achieving long-term stability in Syria is closely linked to combating terrorism and extremism, alongside dealing decisively with the persistent challenge of foreign terrorist fighters.

The Foreign Ministry noted that these measures enhance the capacity of Syrian national state institutions to fulfill their responsibilities in safeguarding national security and stability. Additionally, they pave the way for advancing a comprehensive political process involving all components of the Syrian population, ultimately preserving the unity and sovereignty of the Syrian state.
