US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Ratcliffe recently spoke with reporters during a news conference, as confirmed by the Kremlin regarding his visit to Moscow to meet Russian intelligence officials. Although United States CIA Director John Ratcliffe did not meet directly with President Vladimir Putin, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov addressed reporters on Wednesday following the arrival in the Russian capital.

Peskov clarified that there were no meetings of any kind with the Russian president, though President Vladimir Putin was duly briefed on the discussions. Describing the talks as a positive development, Peskov cautioned that it remains too early to determine how this interaction will impact broader efforts to rescue bilateral relations from their current deep crisis.

Speculation surrounding the trip began when a US Air Force C-17A cargo plane alongside an American diplomatic convoy appeared at a Moscow airport on Tuesday. Subsequent reporting by US media outlet Axios revealed that the United States provided Ukraine with advance notice regarding the delegation and requested a temporary halt to strikes on Russia during the visit. This trip represents the first known visit to Russia by a CIA director since 2021, when then-Director William Burns made the journey to Moscow.
