High-level delegations are visiting Tehran as mediators attempt to restart negotiations between Iran and the United States and de-escalate ongoing tensions. Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani arrived in Tehran for talks concerning the revival of negotiations and the critical Strait of Hormuz, which has faced severe shipping disruptions since March.

Regional diplomacy has seen a flurry of activity this week. On Monday, Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and General Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. Additionally, Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi met with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday to discuss the governance of the shared Strait of Hormuz passageway, with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announcing an agreement on a new temporary shipping route.

Despite these diplomatic efforts, official hostilities between the US and Iran continue. The Trump administration has intensified economic pressure, introducing sweeping sanctions targeting digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping sectors, while maintaining a naval blockade. Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi condemned the measures as economic terrorism. Meanwhile, the US is reportedly preparing to return evacuated diplomatic staff to missions in the region, signaling confidence that the current conflict will not escalate further militarily.
