Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that reviving diplomacy to resolve the ongoing conflict with the US remains achievable, as the war marked its six-month anniversary on Friday. His remarks followed discussions in Tehran with Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, who visited on Thursday to help restart negotiations aimed at de-escalation.

According to Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both officials focused on establishing a pathway back to dialogue. In a statement shared on X, Mr Araghchi emphasized that restoring diplomatic efforts relies on the US recognizing that pressure tactics are ineffective and urged Washington to build trust and honor commitments.

Although direct military engagements have slowed, the Strait of Hormuz continues to be a central flashpoint. Tehran asserts control over the waterway while the US maintains a naval blockade, a stalemate that is prolonging the global energy crisis. Nevertheless, diplomatic channels have grown more active with assistance from mediators in Qatar, Oman, and Pakistan.

Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, announced that Tehran is compiling conditions to reopen the strait. Speaking to Al Manar TV, he noted that Iran and Oman have outlined a potential shipping corridor utilizing both Omani and Iranian waters, provided US conditions are met.

Six months following the strikes that killed former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, internal divisions regarding negotiations have intensified. The current leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has not appeared publicly since the attacks, raising questions about his status while hardliners push for his endorsement of diplomatic initiatives.

Meanwhile, the US continues its strategy of economic pressure, with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announcing fresh sanctions designed to penalize Tehran's funding of regional proxies and impact the domestic economy. US President Donald Trump also highlighted the severe economic strain facing the nation amid the ongoing standoff.
