Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty has reiterated Egypt’s firm backing for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions. During a phone call on Friday with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem, Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of a Sudanese-led political transition free from foreign intervention to resolve the ongoing crisis and restore lasting security and stability.
The discussion served as an opportunity for both officials to review bilateral relations across multiple sectors and assess the latest developments on the ground in Sudan, following recent military shifts in Khartoum where Sudan's military chief Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan visited the Republican Palace after it was retaken from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group.
Additionally, the two foreign ministers evaluated the evolving geopolitical landscape in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region. They highlighted the critical need for enhanced cooperation among littoral countries to safeguard maritime trade routes and support collective peace efforts that protect the stability and interests of the entire region.
