Jason Arday, who made history as the youngest Black professor at the University of Cambridge in 2023, has been found dead at the age of 41. His passing occurred on August 14, just weeks after he stepped down from his post on August 5, 2026, amid intense scrutiny over his academic career.

Authorities reported that Arday was found unresponsive at a south London address. His resignation from Jesus College at the University of Cambridge followed a series of investigative reports regarding his personal life and academic work, including allegations that he had plagiarized parts of his doctoral thesis.

While Arday acknowledged making mistakes, he defended himself against claims that he was a liar, fantasist, or academic fraud. Following his resignation, the university confirmed it would press forward with an investigation into his appointment.

Meanwhile, Arday's memoir, titled "Great and Unfortunate Things," recently debuted in the United States and is scheduled for release in the United Kingdom later in the month. The book chronicles his childhood struggles with autism and his subsequent career achievements. Although the memoir has faced scrutiny, the British publisher confirmed that no plagiarism allegations have been tied to the book.
