President Donald Trump stated on Monday that the US will react forcefully following an overnight Iranian attack targeting American bases in Jordan and the UAE. In an interview with Fox News, he declared, "We’re going to hit them hard," adding that, "There will be a response."

Mr Trump noted that US air defences successfully intercepted nearly all of the incoming Iranian missiles, allowing only one to pass because it was not projected to hit any significant targets. Meanwhile, Jordan’s military confirmed it had intercepted eight missiles.

Furthermore, Mr Trump stated that US sanctions on Iran are having a major impact and claimed that Tehran is pushing for negotiations, though he expressed skepticism regarding the trustworthiness of its leaders.

The military escalation followed a recent US operation involving missile and drone strikes against Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command reported that these limited, precise actions were taken in response to Iranian preparations for laying new mines in the strait, despite a previous claim by Mr Trump last week—disputed by Iran—that the US Navy had cleared the area of mines.

In a separate statement on Truth Social on Monday, Mr Trump labeled Iran a “failed nation,” asserting that its economy and military have been devastated and calling for Iranian leaders to face prosecution for war crimes against humanity.
