An artificial intelligence-generated video showing missiles striking a major Iranian island and destroying oil-processing infrastructure serves as a deliberate warning to Iran, according to United States Vice President JD Vance.

President Donald Trump shared the video on Truth Social on Sunday night, followed by a post on Monday declaring that Iran was "dead" and a "failed nation."

Addressing reporters on Monday at an Air Force base in Maryland, Vance explained that these posts were intended to signal that Iran will face "consequences" if its threats to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz persist.

"We know that they continue to shoot at commercial shipping. We continue to have a lot of tools at our disposal to prevent them from doing so or at least cut down on them from doing so, and that’s what the president is saying," Vance stated. "'You guys are shooting at commercial shipping. You guys are behaving like a terrorist country. You’ve got to stop or there are going to be some consequences.'"

Kharg Island in the Gulf handles approximately 90 percent of Iran's oil exports. President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to target or seize the island since the war on Iran began alongside Israel on February 28. Although US forces attacked military installations on the island in March, oil infrastructure was spared.

These warnings coincide with a recent exchange of fire between the US and Iran, marking their first direct clash in nearly a month. On Sunday, the US military reported targeting launchers on Iran’s Larak Island that were preparing to deploy naval mines into the Strait of Hormuz, an area where US forces have spent months clearing mines to reopen the shipping lane.

In response, Iran fired missiles at US-stationed airbases in the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, though all missed their targets.

Meanwhile, the US announced a recent agreement with Venezuela granting it majority control over the nation's oil reserves, which are the largest proven reserves globally. This follows the abduction of then-Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by US forces in January, after which the new Venezuelan government dismantled restrictions on foreign participation in the oil sector.
