Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has reiterated Egypt's comprehensive support for counterterrorism initiatives across West Africa and the Sahel, emphasizing the importance of combining security measures with development strategies.
During high-level discussions held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister Karamoko Traore to explore deeper bilateral ties and address pressing regional security matters. Highlighting the strategic value of the Aswan Forum for Peace and Development in the Sahel, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty underscored Egypt's dedication to fostering close coordination with Sahel nations to bolster regional stability, particularly under Burkina Faso’s current presidency of the Alliance of Sahel States.
As part of the diplomatic engagements, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty formally invited Foreign Minister Karamoko Traore to participate in the upcoming sixth Aswan Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development, scheduled for November.
The two officials acknowledged the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, with Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty advocating for expanded collaboration in trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals. These efforts build upon the political consultation agreement established in July 2025. Furthermore, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty noted the significance of the Egyptian-Burkinabe Business Forum, running concurrently with the visit, and emphasized ongoing military cooperation alongside capacity-building programs delivered by Egyptian institutions and Al-Azhar Al-Sharif.
In response, Foreign Minister Karamoko Traore commended the strengthening partnership between the two nations, highlighting the necessity of sustained high-level dialogue and joint efforts in security, training, and counterterrorism. He also expressed Burkina Faso's eagerness to leverage Egypt's institutional expertise to reinforce national capabilities.
