President Sheikh Mohamed received a phone call from US President Donald Trump on Thursday to discuss bilateral co-operation and strategies for strengthening ties between their nations. During the conversation, President Sheikh Mohamed and Mr Trump also reviewed the latest developments across the Middle East and ongoing efforts to address them.
The discussion follows Wednesday's statement in which the UAE condemned Iran's latest attacks across the region, following strikes that impacted Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that these “hostile attacks constitute a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the brotherly nations and a threat to their security and stability”.
Iran initiated the missile and drone attacks in response to American forces striking approximately 100 targets within the Islamic republic. US Central Command reported that its operations targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps air defences, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying equipment and communications sites, following attempted IRGC attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, US drones fired missiles at two Iranian government ships under a new “tanker for tanker” policy, according to Axios reports citing US officials.
