Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stressed the need for continuous monitoring of the availability of medicines and medical supplies at hospitals nationwide, including those affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population and university hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, to ensure regular supplies meet patients’ needs.

Madbouly made the remarks during a meeting on Wednesday September 2, 2026 at the government headquarters in the New Capital to follow up on the availability of medicines and medical supplies at various hospitals. The meeting was attended by Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Egyptian Drug Authority Chairman Ali el Ghamrawy, Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply and the Management of Medical Technology Chairman Hisham Stait, and officials from the relevant ministries and authorities.

Madbouly stressed the importance of continuously monitoring medicine and medical supply stocks to ensure hospitals maintain adequate strategic reserves, particularly amid supply-chain disruptions resulting from political developments and events in the region. He noted that the state has allocated around LE90 billion in the current fiscal year’s budget to secure various medical supplies and build up adequate stocks, highlighting the integrated storage and distribution system managed by the Unified Procurement Authority.

Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar reviewed the status at Ministry of Health hospitals, affirming that stock levels are reassuring and that temporary shortages are swiftly addressed through coordination with the Unified Procurement Authority. Meanwhile, Chairman Hisham Stait detailed the digital inventory system currently utilized by 38,000 healthcare workers across 11,000 medical facilities to optimize asset use, standardize warehouses, and conduct electronic inventories.

Acting Minister Abdel Aziz Konsowa also reported on university hospitals, noting that increased strategic stocks have successfully improved pharmaceutical availability. Prime Minister Madbouly concluded by directing all ministers to actively monitor the implementation of these digital governance systems to ensure sustained healthcare resource management.
