Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi recently met with Elsewedy Capital Holding Chairman Ahmed Elsewedy to review progress and expedite the development of a major phosphate fertilizer production facility in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

Released in an official statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority, WadiCo, and Elsewedy Capital Investment Group. This joint venture aligns with Egypt's broader vision to elevate the economic worth of its mineral resources through expanded domestic manufacturing.

During the discussion, Karim Badawi emphasized that the project is a crucial milestone for boosting the utilization of Egyptian phosphate. By transforming raw minerals into higher-value intermediate and finished goods, the endeavor aims to reinforce national industries while expanding Egypt's overall production and export capacities.

Expressing appreciation for Elsewedy Capital Holding, the minister highlighted that private-sector partnerships remain vital for driving industrial growth and maximizing natural resource efficiency. Furthermore, Karim Badawi urged project teams to streamline administrative procedures, resolve any emerging obstacles swiftly, and maintain strict adherence to project timelines through robust institutional coordination.

Ultimately, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources views this initiative as a cornerstone of its strategic shift away from raw material extraction toward advanced downstream industries. By building integrated sectors around local raw materials, Egypt aims to heighten the global competitiveness of its products and stimulate fresh investment opportunities.
