President Sheikh Mohamed has officially granted a pardon to Abdul Rahman Yusuf Al Qaradawi, who had previously faced a 10-year prison sentence alongside a Dh200,000 ($54,450) fine.
The conviction was handed down on August 27 by the Cyber Crimes Department of the Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal. According to state media Wam, all necessary administrative procedures have been finalized to enforce the presidential pardon, which was publicly announced on Friday.
Within the UAE, a presidential pardon serves as an official act of clemency designed to forgive or reduce a convicted individual's punishment without implying legal innocence. Traditionally, rulers across the UAE issue pardons to inmates during significant occasions such as Ramadan, Eid, and Eid Al Etihad (UAE National Day), demonstrating compassion and offering eligible prisoners a renewed opportunity at life.
