Abu Dhabi Police have shared shocking footage of consecutive traffic accidents triggered by a minor two-vehicle collision on a major highway. The video clearly demonstrates how halting in active traffic lanes and failing to promptly clear accident scenes can result in catastrophic secondary collisions within mere seconds.

Following the initial crash, traffic ground to a halt as curious motorists slowed down or stopped entirely to watch the scene, leading to a massive pile-up as subsequent vehicles approached. Abu Dhabi Police urge motorists to follow rules around school buses. Furthermore, the surveillance captured drivers exiting their vehicles directly in the middle of active lanes, flashing lights to warn oncoming traffic but ultimately creating dangerous bottlenecks.

Authorities reiterated that stopping in the middle of the road poses an extreme hazard to all road users. Rubbernecking is considered a serious traffic offense in the UAE, carrying a fine of Dh1,000 ($272). Officials emphasized that slowing down or stopping to gawk at incidents is a primary driver of secondary crashes, severely disrupting traffic flow and distracting surrounding motorists.

Drivers involved in collisions are strongly advised to relocate their vehicles to the nearest exit or a safe shoulder whenever feasible, rather than remaining stationary in a travel lane. Clearing roadways swiftly safeguards everyone involved in the original incident alongside fellow commuters.

Police noted that if a vehicle becomes entirely inoperable following a crash, drivers should immediately contact the Command and Control Centre on 999 for emergency assistance. Quick reporting enables authorities to respond efficiently, mitigates the escalation of danger, and restores normal traffic movement. Motorists are reminded to relocate to a secure area and await help rather than trying to direct traffic themselves, while maintaining strict focus behind the wheel at all times.
