A mock website directing users to the Epstein Files surfaced as the top search result on Google for the Republican Party’s upcoming midterm convention in Dallas, Texas. For hours on Friday, gopdallas2026.com climbed to the top of search results, featuring preview text that promised viewers details about the 2026 RNC Midterm Convention. However, visitors who clicked on the link were immediately redirected to the Department of Justice’s website containing files regarding Jeffrey Epstein.
The Republican Party swiftly denounced the website on social media, directing visitors to GOPConvention.com as the official portal. “FAKE NEWS!” the party declared regarding reports that the spoof website was genuine. Democratic lawmakers used the prank to reignite discussions surrounding the Epstein Files, which have remained a persistent source of criticism for the administration of President Donald Trump, a scheduled speaker at the two-day event.
Trump officials have faced accusations of mishandling the release of the documents, mandated within 30 days by November’s Epstein Files Transparency Act. Critics have noted that certain records published by the Justice Department contain heavy redactions while exposing the identities of victims. President Donald Trump has also faced renewed scrutiny over his personal relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, which he maintains ended decades ago.
Democratic lawmakers quickly capitalized on reports of the spoof convention website. Representative Ted Lieu of California shared a post from reporter Jake Lahut noting that unusual activity was occurring. “I just tried the website and the below description, as of right now, is accurate,” Representative Ted Lieu stated. “Sort of awesome.”
Internet Archive documentation reveals that gopdallas2026.com previously featured a background image of the American Airlines Center in Dallas, the venue for the upcoming midterm gathering, and prompted visitors to input their contact information for exclusive updates. A small disclaimer at the bottom of the page noted that the site was an independent informational resource not affiliated with the Republican National Committee (RNC), the 2026 RNC Midterm Convention, or the American Airlines Center.
The upcoming event marks the first midterm convention hosted by the Republican Party and is scheduled for September 9 to 10. According to a press release from the Republican National Committee, the event is projected to be the party's largest gathering since 2016. President Donald Trump is slated to speak on both nights to build enthusiasm ahead of the November midterm elections as Republicans work to maintain their majorities in the House of Representatives and Senate.
