Fitch Ratings has officially removed Qatar from its \"Rating Watch Negative\" status while affirming its sovereign rating at AA, following a decrease in threats to key energy infrastructure during the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran and the Strait of Hormuz blockade.
The ratings agency revealed its decision on Friday, pointing to diminished risks surrounding the country's liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar, since March. Despite this positive adjustment, Fitch maintained a negative outlook on the rating due to persistent challenges affecting gas exports through the blockaded Strait of Hormuz.
\"The impact of the war on the credit profile will take longer to discern,\" the agency noted in an official statement.
As one of the world's premier gas exporters, Qatar continues to grapple with export interruptions and supply shortages resulting from energy facility damage sustained during the war on Iran, which commenced six months ago. Earlier in the year, credit agencies S&P and Moody’s also sustained Qatar’s ratings, emphasizing that the nation's substantial financial cushion provides a vital buffer against the economic fallout of the conflict.
