A political action committee linked to United States President Donald Trump has committed $10m toward television and digital advertising in Texas for the upcoming midterm elections. Filed on Saturday with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the move marks the first major general election expenditure by MAGA, Inc, the super PAC named after Trump’s “Make America Great Again” platform.
The campaign is slated to primarily focus on Democratic candidate James Talarico, a 37-year-old state representative challenging Trump-backed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for a seat in the US Senate. This race has sparked speculation that Democrats might capture a Texas Senate seat for the first time since 1993, particularly as Paxton has faced multiple controversies, including a state impeachment trial. Nonetheless, Democrats have struggled to win statewide office in Texas for over thirty years.
In a Saturday statement, MAGA, Inc criticized Talarico as disconnected from local voters. Campaign spokesperson Alex Pfeiffer stated that the organization aims to highlight Talarico's policies and secure a victory for Ken Paxton. While traditionally a Republican stronghold, shifting political dynamics and cost-of-living concerns have provided an opening for Democrats like Talarico in the upcoming midterms, where control of Congress remains fiercely contested.
The newly announced advertisements will concentrate heavily on tax policy, alleging that Democratic proposals would increase the financial burden on voters. Conversely, Democrats argue that Republican tax strategies favor the wealthy, pointing to the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Talarico’s campaign dismissed the ad campaign, with spokesperson JT Ennis accusing outside dark money groups of misrepresenting the candidate's legislative record on property tax cuts.
Texas continues to be a central battleground for Republican electoral strategy. Following map redistricting efforts and upcoming campaign visits by Donald Trump to Dallas, the national party is heavily investing in the state. Trump recently indicated that MAGA, Inc plans to deploy hundreds of millions of dollars to support Republican candidates nationwide during the midterm cycle.
