The New Cairo Family Court on Saturday adjourned the hearing for the lawsuit filed by Nawal al-Degwy's grandson, Amr al-Degwy—in which he seeks to place her assets under legal guardianship—to November 4. This postponement allows for the submission of documents withdrawing the motion to recuse the presiding judges.

The decision follows the withdrawal by Degwy's defense team of their motion to recuse the panel of the court hearing the case. At the previous hearing, the court had decided to adjourn proceedings to allow the litigants time to submit documents, reports, and legal memoranda supporting their respective positions.

The lawsuit comes amid escalating family disputes within the Degwy family, following accusations by Nawal al-Degwy that several family members misappropriated funds and gold jewelry valued at over a quarter of a billion Egyptian pounds. One of Degwy's grandchildren filed a guardianship suit, arguing that her continued management of her own finances could lead to ruin.

Her defense team maintains that the suit should be dismissed, asserting that she possesses full legal capacity and is capable of managing her affairs and finances without guardianship.
