Palestinians carry the body of three-year-old Saadi Ghalia, who was killed by an Israeli tank shell, according to medics, for his funeral in Deir el-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip [Mahmoud Issa/Reuters]. Recent Israeli attacks across the territory have resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including two children, despite the ongoing existence of a declared ceasefire.
According to a statement released by the Palestinian Ministry of Education on Sunday, seven-year-old Wafaa Aqila and her father were killed when an Israeli strike targeted the vehicle they were riding in. The family had just been purchasing school supplies ahead of the new academic year, which Wafaa was due to begin in just a few days.
Later that same day, an Israeli artillery strike impacted the Sakina School in Deir el-Balah, a facility currently functioning as a shelter for displaced people. This attack resulted in the death of Saadi Ghalia, a young first-grade student. Condemning the incidents, the Palestinian Ministry of Education stated that while children globally prepare to return to school, children in Gaza continue to face extreme violence.
Data released by the Gaza Health Ministry on Monday indicated that at least five Palestinians were killed and 30 others sustained injuries over a 24-hour period. Additionally, two more individuals succumbed to wounds from earlier military engagements. According to Ministry records, at least 1,352 people have died and 4,511 have been injured since the ceasefire agreement took effect in October. Since the broader conflict began in October 2023, the total death toll has reached at least 73,658 Palestinians, with 174,622 others wounded.
