Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, has approved a new initiative to reintroduce senior citizens, their spouses, and retired individuals into part-time public sector roles.
Announced via a social media post by the emirate's media office, the system offers flexible arrangements such as working specific hours or three days a week. The initiative aims to enhance family financial stability and promote a healthier work-life balance.
Additionally, the scheme creates employment opportunities for social assistance beneficiaries and capable individuals to foster greater social participation and improve quality of life. As part of broader employment drives, Sheikh Dr Sultan also ordered the hiring of 1,200 Emiratis within the Sharjah government, targeting a total of 3,000 UAE citizens in the emirate's public sector by the end of the year, building upon the 1,800 Emiratis already employed at the start of 2026. This follows another recent directive approving a monthly minimum wage of Dh20,000 ($5,445) for government employees in the emirate.
