A new two-lane bridge designed to enhance traffic flow around the Dubai World Trade Centre area is scheduled to open on Friday, according to an announcement by the city's Roads and Transport Authority.
The infrastructure addition is a component of a Dh633 million ($172 million) masterplan created to tackle congestion on one of the emirate's busiest routes, particularly during major exhibitions and events held at DWTC.
Spanning 500 meters, the bridge provides a direct pathway for motorists traveling from DWTC and One Central toward Al Mustaqbal Street and Za’abeel Palace Street, effectively easing pressure on nearby roads.
The RTA projects that the new bridge will significantly cut travel times between DWTC and the junction of Al Mustaqbal Street and Za’abeel Palace Street, reducing the journey from approximately 10 minutes down to two minutes during peak event times.
This development is part of the broader Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project, which was announced in October 2024 to benefit roughly 500,000 residents and visitors, stretching from the intersection with Za’abeel Palace Street to Financial Centre Street.
RTA chairman and director general Mattar Al Tayer stated that the final bridge of the project, which will cater to traffic moving from Al Majlis Street toward 2nd December Street, is slated to open in October.
Al Tayer noted that the overall initiative holds strategic importance due to its central location in a bustling district encompassing DWTC and DIFC, as well as its vital connections to Downtown Dubai and Business Bay.
The comprehensive scheme encompasses 2,000 meters of bridges and tunnels, alongside the widening of Al Mustaqbal Street from three to four lanes in each direction.
Additionally, the integrated plan involves upgrading the World Trade Centre Roundabout, where construction is advancing rapidly with completion rates already surpassing 85 percent, according to Al Tayer.
He emphasized that the project will boost traffic efficiency, improve access to major financial, business, and events destinations, foster trade and tourism flows, and prepare the region for continued economic expansion.
Upon full completion, the initiative will expand the capacity of Al Mustaqbal Street by 33 percent, elevating it from 6,600 to 8,800 vehicles per hour in both directions, while cutting travel times along the corridor from 13 minutes to six minutes.
