Russian drone strikes targeting a border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova in the southern Odesa region have left at least two people dead and three others injured, according to Ukrainian authorities. Governor Oleh Kiper stated that the attack near the Starokozache crossing occurred on Wednesday, prompting a temporary halt to passenger and vehicle traffic after a fire broke out at the site.

Simultaneously, emergency services reported that Russia launched overnight drone attacks on the capital, Kyiv, causing fires but resulting in no casualties. The Russian defence ministry claimed its forces struck a Ukrainian cargo vessel carrying military equipment in the Black Sea heading toward the port of Odesa, along with a warehouse in Kyiv allegedly belonging to a drone-manufacturing company. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko also reported a strike on a 16-storey building early Wednesday, dispatching emergency responders to the location.

Further destruction was reported in the Mykolaiv region, where Russian air strikes damaged port, transport, and civilian infrastructure, killing one person and injuring several others. Moscow resumed its near-constant air assaults on Kyiv following a brief pause during a visit by US peace negotiators. Meanwhile, the Russian defence ministry claimed its forces intercepted and shot down 596 Ukrainian drones overnight.

In the southern Krasnodar region, governor Veniamin Kondratyev confirmed that four people were killed in Novorossiysk. Mayor Andrei Kravchenko stated that drone debris fell near businesses and residential buildings late Tuesday. Robert Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, confirmed that Ukrainian attacks successfully struck military vessels at a naval base in Novorossiysk, resulting in the loss of missile carriers at the critical export hub for Russian oil and grain.
